Greetings and welcome to the Powder River Symphony.  As we start our 21st year and my 2nd year as Orchestra Director I want to thank the individuals, businesses, government agencies and our audiences who have done so much to support our music making.  The musicians that appear on stage are your friends and neighbors from the northeast Wyoming area. They are teachers, business people, students and individuals who believe that making music is very important to their lives and important to our "quality of life" here in Wyoming.

Steven Trinkle

This 2007-08 season brings to Gillette some great entertainment. Each of the 4 concerts blends the orchestra with terrific soloists to bring a first rate symphonic concert season to the Cam-Plex.

Our season opens with "Wine, Roses and Romance" with the music of Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" and the world premier performance of music for piano and orchestra composed and performed by our piano soloist from Quebec, Marie-Andrée Ostiguy. She is charming, beautiful and her music is so romantic and truly unforgettable. The orchestra will top off the concert with Morton Gould's "Symphonette #2" a delightful jazzy orchestral bonbon, sure to please.

Our "Christmas Pops Concert" brings the music of the Holiday Season plus an extra special gift of a performance of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto performed by the 12 year old Likai He.  You won't want to miss this and you'll never forget it. What could be better to start the holiday season; a young man playing one of the great concertos and your favorite music of the holiday season for buglers, toys, skaters and a sleigh!

February begins with our concert for "Children of all Ages." All of the different sections of the orchestra will entertain you with selections especially written for them, strings, woodwinds and brass. Then we give you "The Thrill of the Orchestra", Russell Peck's zany ride through the orchestra pointing out the serious, very unserious and hilarious aspects of the orchestral instruments from the composers perspective. And no "Children of all Ages" concert would be complete without "Peter and the Wolf".  Keep your eye on the duck!

"Boots and Toots!"  That's right. Wear your boots, hat and Wranglers to this final concert of the season. We are featuring Marie Rhines, violinist, in her "American Violin Concerto", a toe tappin' combination of western, cowboy and bluegrass. The orchestra completes the concert with the "Prairie Overture" of Robert Ward, Aaron Copland's "Rodeo" and the music from the movie "Cowboys" by John Williams.

Well that's it.  Doesn't get better than this.  4 great concerts performed in one of the finest concert halls in the country. We're bringing you 3 violin soloists, our orchestra and foot tappin' music that will keep you humming and whistling throughout the year. See you at the Cam-Plex.
